China's first-ever self-produced deep-water drilling is now set to be put into service in the South China Sea this week.

China National Offshore Oil Corporation, or CNOOC, says it will be the first independent deep-water oil drilling by a Chinese company.

Around 70 percent of the oil and gas reserves in the South China Sea are contained in deep-water regions.
