Russia would never allow the creation of a missile defense system that destroys the strategic balance, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said Friday.

"Actually, missile defense is an illusion, whatever how much money is invested into it, just because we will never let them built such a system and destroy the strategic balance," Rogozin said during a visit to the "NPO Mashinostroyeniya" military-industrial corporation.

Rogozin also said that no country would be able to build a missile defense shield to receive unilateral "feeling of impunity."

Russia and NATO failed to reach any consensus over the anti-missile issue since they agreed to cooperate on a European missile shield system in November 2010.

Moscow has long opposed the deployment of the U.S.-led NATO missile defense facilities near its borders and wants legally binding guarantees from the U.S. and NATO that the missile defense shield is not targeting Russia.
