James Cameron's Oscar-winning and box office behemoth, "Titanic", will receive a 3D makeover in time for its re-release in mainland theaters on April 10, the 100th anniversary of the titular ship's sinking.

"Titanic" was released in China in 1998 and created 360 million yuan (about 58 million USD) at the box office. After 14 years, James Cameron has converted the blockbuster into 3D format for a re-release which will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the ship's sinking.

The storyline of the film is adapted from the true events surrounding the ship's sinking. The British luxury passenger liner Titanic tragically collided with an iceberg and sank off the southern coast of Newfoundland on April 15, 1912, during its maiden voyage from Southampton, England to New York City. The movie's doomed lovers, played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, became the most well-known on-screen couple among movie fans across the world.

Cameron himself will come to China in April to attend the opening ceremony of the 2nd Beijing International Film Festival.

The re-release of the film has become a hot topic among China's bloggers. Many of them have been sharing their personal stories about watching the film for the first time about 14 years ago. And as director Cameron said, "Titanic belongs to the big screen. The people who saw the film 14 years ago will have new feelings because of their experience."
